Some pics

Just some random pics from Vancouver..... This woman was carving a totem pole on Granville Island, which is a neat spot to walk around on a sunny warm day.....and why are there palm trees in this city....very weird.

This is the little ferry boat that holds only 8 people that takes you across the water to Granville Island...

Holding up the world...this is in the International Broadcast Centre....hey I saw Tom Brokaw from NBC news wandering around here, this pic was taken at 4am when I wasn't doing anything and trying to stay awake...

This is our Graphics preload area, where we load every font you see on your tv screens...the pics on the wall are new formats that we had to quickly create for the broadcasts.

This one's from tonight, Canada vs Germany - good game! With about 3 minutes left in the game, the crowd began chanting WE WANT RUSSIA, WE WANT RUSSIA....(canada's next game in the qtr final....)

Poor sensitive kid!

Henry's off school today (he only goes every other day) and as we were walking home from school (the long way to give Murph a good walk), he found a nice big hunk of snow. It snowed quite a lot last night and all the kids were pretty excited about it, we haven't had much snow all winter! Well, Henry's carrying this big snow hunk around and says it's his baby, Bob. So the baby comes with us with Henry only occasionally complaining that his baby's heavy. When we got home I was shovelling the driveway (with a dog who's scared of the shovel tied around my waist...quite interesting!) and Henry was playing on the lawn. I asked if he wanted to build a snowman or get out the sleds...no, he just wanted to play with his baby. I came inside when I was done but Henry wanted to stay outside and play. Only 5 minutes later (I should have seen it coming), Henry came in the house just BAWLING. He was pretty hysterical. "My baby's broken! I knew I shouldn't have pushed him on the swing!" Poor kid.

Later...
To console Henry, I brought out a little dolly that was in with his stuffed animals but he didn't really play with. I said this could be Bob instead & he started carrying it around the house. He set Bob down next to him on the couch but is so into the tv that he didn't even notice Murphy steal Bob & chew the back of his head off. Another bawling session! Don't worry, I made Bob a little cap that covers his wound.

Blog Changes

Due to the kids friends' starting to read blogs, we have decided to make this an invitation only blog, so if you didn't get an invitation in the next few days after we make the change - let us know - maybe we didn't know you were reading it!

Thanks!

What I do...

So here's a sample of the work I am doing at the Olympics...mainly loading information of all kinds, for all the various networks that we have. Scoreboards, standings, results boards, and boards like this one, this is our look that we are using on CTV/TSN/SPORTSNET etc..

Oldtimers Hockey

So Henry's team was invited out to an Oldtimers hockey game tonight. It was arranged quite a while ago but we didn't exactly know what to expect. It's a show with old retired NHL hockey players playing against a local law enforcement team to raise money for charity. Henry's team was not only invited to watch, but to participate in part of the game against the ex-NHLers. They were to be called onto the ice as "alternate players" at the beginning of the second period. Too bad Jason's away, I wouldn't know an ex-NHLer if I skated with him! This is Henry's team getting excited in the dressing room before hand.

It was pretty cute...the big guys would fall down and try to make it look like the little guys were out-playing them. Henry was ready for this, he said in the dressing room, "I think they're going to go easy on us."! In this picture, he's in the middle waiting for a pass...he was disappointed not to score on them since one of his teammates was a "puck-hog".

Coming off the ice (Henry on the left)

Afterwards, 2 of the guys (Glenn Anderson & Bryan Trottier?) came to the dressing room for photos with the team. Really nice guys & laughing at Henry for kissing the Stanley Cup! Really fun night for Jack & Henry (& Grampa)!

Canada's First Gold!

More Pics...

Not much to say, I miss the family a lot!

There's a fuzzy pic in here that I took of Alexandre Bilodeau - Canada's 1st ever gold medal at home winner...he just happened to walk by me when I was wondering the compound...

Weather is somewhat warm....see pics of flowers.

All is good, I am going to go tonight to see Bilodeau be awarded his gold medal! Should be exciting...

Another Goalie?!

Don't get me wrong, I'm very proud of Jack & how far he's come as a goalie. His game last night was really exciting and he played so well winning 4-3 in overtime. But the equipment's expensive and watching games can be stressful...do we really need another one in the family? Henry was goalie this morning for his house league team. In house league all the players take turns being goalie. Henry's team won 11-6 and I have to say, he was GREAT! Even the coach from the other team commented that our team had a great goalie! Henry loved it and said that when he gets to Jack's level he'd like to be a goalie full-time...ugh!

hasn't even started yet?

I spent the entire day at the broadcast centre, then I got a call at the end of the day telling me I was supposed to be at BC Place for the opening ceremonies...anyway, very stressful evening and very long day, only 13 hours...but had time for a quick drink to relieve stress.

Watched the entire opening ceremonies, and if you can watch it all - you will be amazed! It's really incredible. Canada will be very proud.

Anyway, all is well - busy, miss the family and wish they were here, but I guess I wouldn't see them much anyway.

I heard Jack had a great game in net and they won in OT! Way to go Jack - and thanks to all the family for going to his game - he would never say but I'm sure he was glad all was there to see him play.

Try to take some pics tomorrow and post again.

I'm Here...

Arrived in Vancouver today (+12 degrees today!) - good flight, great accommodation - I'm sharing with another guy in a townhouse in downtown Vancouver - couldn't be better, except if the family was here.

This is where I will be working during the Olympics...the Main media centre - where are the world broadcasters are setup. (The green flat roof building on the water)

Tomorrow I begin my assignment on the Opening Ceremonies, setup day and getting ready for a full dress rehearsal - should be interesting.

Well, he's gone.

In fact, he's probably just taking off right now. Jason will be in Vancouver for a whole month for the Olympics and we'll sure miss him around here!

Shutout

Jack started his playoffs with his hockey team - and they won their first game 1-0 - with a shutout from Jack! It was really exciting. Onto Aurora on Wednesday!
