Been Sick

I haven't blogged for a bit, but I've just recovered from strep throat...are there varying degrees of strep throat? Did I have a really bad case? Or is it always that awful? I only remember having had it once before and I know I felt awful, but I spent 3 days in bed and couldn't swallow!

Anyway, I'm feeling a lot better but yesterday, Jack suddenly had a fever and this morning said his throat was a little sore...uh-oh!

He had the busiest weekend of us all. It was the last hockey game of the year and his team won overall! He scored a goal although he'd argue he scored two. It was fantastic and at the end they brought out a faux Stanley Cup that every player got to skate around with...really great!

Can't even think what else is new right now, it's amazing how the days go by when you're not feeling well and somehow nothing matters, the phone ringing, unanswered email, everything listed to do on the calendar. Maybe it got done, you'd have to ask Jason.

March Break visitors

I'm missing pictures from earlier in the week...Eri, Bennett & Charlotte kicked off March Break with a playday and lunch.

We had kids' friends here and there.

My friend Karen & her girls came for the day and we got to catch up while the kids played not-too-violent games (they saved those for right before they left!) Sorry, I hope Maddie's head is ok.

And then we ended the week with a nice visit from Gramps.

He got to come watch Jack play hockey this morning before heading home and Jack was really glad he came!

So how did March Break rate this year? Well, overall, everyone had a good time. The weather could have been warmer, I don't remember ever bicycling in +1C weather before, but we saw the sun and went for it! We fit in 3 library programs at our AMAZING new library and spent the kids' Chapters gift cards so books were a BIG hit! The visits with friends and skating activities were nice, but still I will be glad for school to start tomorrow. Something about lack of routine makes everyone edgy around here. It will be a real slap in the face for those kids to get up at 7:15 tomorrow though, they've been sleeping in until 8:30/9:00!!

Wish me luck!

Happy Birthday, Hannah!

I love that my daughter was born on Women's Day!

Doesn't seem like 9 years ago that Jason and I arrived at the hospital, completely new to the experience, for me to be induced. Hannah was 10 days late, which really makes a lot of sense knowing her now!

We had her birthday party at our house today with 9 of her friends...it was a High School Musical party and Erika made one of her infamous cakes! It was beautiful Er! Hannah planned most of the party herself including the games, the written schedule for the flow of the party (don't know where she gets that from) and the "prize store". We did surprise her with a couple of the prizes...Jason got a copy of a High School Musical autographed script from ebay and made copies for everyone!

Yesterday was the last day of Hannah's skating lessons (before she begins practices for the big Ice Show) and they ended the session with Skating Olympics. Very fun! Just noticed that the judges aren't watching Hannah's backward skate in that photo though...

After the Olympics, we surprised one of the Moms (whose birthday it was) by showing up at her house...what a nice surprise? Luckily this was pre-planned by her husband so it wasn't just a bunch of families showing up unexpectly at her doorstep. We had a great evening of drinks and karaoke. Thanks Steve, and Happy Birthday, Jill!

Success, Success

Well, that's 2 successful parties under our belts, one more to come tomorrow.

Hannah's mostly been planning her own, so that's helpful. Hers will be at home with High School Musical related games & activities.

The boys' party went quickly and smoothly! 2 hours isn't a lot of time for 14 boys (and one poor little girl!) to play, eat pizza, watch gift opening, eat cake & play! The place we had it at was excellent and I think everyone really enjoyed themselves. Hannah and her friend Julia helped set things up and keep things organized. Henry invited one little girl from his preschool who he loves. He insisted I buy her a bouquet of flowers for him to give her. She was VERY shy (no wonder!) but played with everyone nicely.

Here are some highlights:

Intern

I have an intern at work who I am training, he just finished college. He seems like a nice kid - and when I use the word kid I mean it - he was born in 1987! I almost fell over when he told me his age. I guess if Sidney Crosby can play in the NHL at that age - then I should just get used to these little kids being grown ups.

Looking back...

These are pictures and stories from a week ago, I'm just a bit behind I guess.

Hannah went to Brownie camp and it was a beautiful, sunny weekend. It's been a really long, REALLY snowy winter and so I guess the sun coming out made me prematurely excited for spring. When Mom & Erika suggested a walk around Mom's block, I decided to make it a little more interesting and suggested Toogood Pond where there are paths and boardwalks and Jack & Bennett could run along and we could all enjoy the nice weather. I do always try to fit too much in and I had to pick up Hannah from Brownie camp about one hour later, but thought the walk would be good for everyone...including Charlotte in her stroller. Mom & Erika had a really great sense of humour about it (luckily) when I had to leave them stranded in a snowbank (again) to run pick up Hannah with Jack bleeding from climbing a frozen tree in winter boots! I don't know how long they stayed, it was a long walk back around the pond and there was ice & snow covering everything and not a bare path to push a stroller anywhere! Whose crazy idea was this?

When I did pick Hannah up, I was greeted this way!!

I remember Brownie camp when I was Hannah's age, but I don't ever remember going in the winter!! Those girls (and some of their Moms) are pretty tough!

Anyway, the weather seems to be turning, rain and above 0 temperatures today but still mountains of snow everywhere! Eri & I had a much more spring-like walk with Henry, Bennett & Charlotte at the zoo today. Lots of puddles, but no one got stuck or hurt...the sign of a good day!
