Funny Blog

You have to check out this blog - I started the link to last August when this girl named Sarah moved to a small village in Japan to teach English to students, it's very well written, and very very funny. Start at the bottom of the page....

Let me know what you think.

Saturday...

Yesterday I came home from work to find Dana at home with about 12 kids in the pool! An impromtu pool party I guess - it was a lot of fun. Last night we went to see Shrek the Third - the kids loved it, it wasn't as good as the first two but it did have a few bits that were funny for the adults. Today is my Mom's birthday - I was just telling Jack that when he said "does she still have a birthday party in heaven?" I said yes, and he said "Whew...Good, because Fluffy and Bear (2 hamsters that died) could come and Jesus too"!

New Day

I talked to Dana this morning and she said Papa was feeling pretty good, walking around and in good spirits. Dana comes home tonight so we will all be happy to see her!

I wasn't feeling too hot yesterday, just exhausted and now I feel a little better, I took the kids to school and Henry to tot-spot (poor kid cried and didn't want to go - hanging on my leg and not letting go) so now I have a few minutes to myself and re-grouped and having a coffee.

Tonight Jack has a t-ball game, Hannah has soccer practice and I have volleyball - not sure how it will all turn out, but Penny is coming over to put the kids to bed.

Okay I better get his house in order and laundry done before the next storm arrives....it's kind of like being in the eye of the storm right now - all calm but you know more is going to arrive!

Victoria Day

After two weddings this weekend, Dana left this morning for Montreal to see her Grandfather. She comes home tomorrow, so it's a quick visit. Took the day off work tomorrow so I'll take the kids to school and Henry to tot-spot.

After this weekend though, I must say I really don't know how single parents do it, I really honestly don't know how they do it.

Dinosaur Alive!

Tonight I took the kids to the Dinosaur Alive exhibit at the zoo. Members got a sneak preview of the exhibit before it opens later in the week and it is pretty darn cool. They roar and the kids are able to press a button to move the dinosaurs head, tail and legs. Dana signed us up for it, but she unfortunately had to work.

Nice to be Home

I'm anxious to get back to Montreal to see Papa, it's different visiting without the kids and I was able to have such a nice visit with him and with Granny Gwen while I was there.

However, it was really nice to come home, too. I was so warmly greeted by the kids and Jason and was treated to a "Mother's Day Tea" in Jack's classroom today. Dad took Henry to the park so I could have one-on-one time with Jack (and he could have one-on-one time with Henry).

The class had also rehearsed some songs which they sang to us from the stage in the school gym. Then they had a fashion show of sorts...each kid had created a costume (out of paper) that was to represent something they wanted to do better. There were ballerina costumes and singer costumes. Jack was dressed as "Dash" from The Incredibles to help him run faster! He was also chosen to introduce the song they sang.

I'm really impressed (not just with my own kids, but with the kids at the school in general) at how brave and confident they are. I remember being pretty shy at that age.

Yesterday Hannah and a few of her friends tried out for the school talent show and got up on that stage to perform some kind of "skipette" routine. For those of you born in the 70's, you may be more familiar with the term "lemon twister". It's a thing that loops around your foot with a plastic lemon or some more modern plastic shape at the end of a rope and you jump over it with your other foot while swinging it around ...anyway, it was a pretty odd choice for a talent show but they hopped on that stage with all the confidence in the world.

Mind you, what were we thinking, Jennifer, when we danced to "Tiny Bubbles" with garbage bag grass skirts in our talent show?

My point is, it's nice to be home and back to the madness that is my life!

I am a Beached Whale

That's the name of our beach volleyball team..we played our first game last night - actually we played 6 games in total and lost the first 4, then we got our act together and won the last 2. We play outdoors at a great facility in Vaughn and we sure had a good time. It should be a fun season!
Last night seems like a blur it was a lot of running around - everyone had something going on, Jack had a bike rally with Beavers, and Hannah had soccer evaluation - they will determine which team she will play with after these evaluations are done. Dana said she did great so I am looking forward to watching her on Thursday. Jack will start t-ball soon so we have to figure out how to put that in the mix.

First Swim

I surprised the kids on the way home from school - after we played in the playground for a 1/2 hour after school they were complaining how hot they were, and the playground is really dusty...really dusty - Henry was coated in this grey film from head to toe, anyway I told them nonchalantly - "well just go home and jump in the pool then" - Hannah caught it, Jack just complained thinking I was teasing him and Henry said "what pool"...

No pictures, I forgot - but they sure had a good time, I did too, I really love taking them to school and staying home, it's a real treat. The only trick I have learned is that if I sit down I'm exhausted, but if I just keep moving until they are in bed (like right now) then I'm fine.

It's funny you learn a little bit more about your kids when it's not the regular routine you are used to - Hannah talked to me today about how she is trying out for the talent show tomorrow after school, watching Jack in the kindergarten playground, you can see he is a little leader in his class, he has everyone's ear, and well Henry, when you are out and about with him, at Tim Horton's or the grocery store, that kid doesn't stop talking, I mean - Doesn't At All. I know he talks a lot, but he talks and talks and talks, when no one is around he is even talking about something - he's a hoot that one.

Dana's home tonight and we are all looking forward to it...believe me - you were missed!

Is this how it is.....

What's New?

Not much...Dana is off to Montreal to visit her Grandfather until late Monday, so it's been busy around here entertaining the kids...Saturday we went to the park to practice t-ball on the baseball diamond - Jack was really into it and really trying hard, Henry played too but he has to learn baseball isn't a sport one tackles other people. We also brought our kite, which on first go was taken away in the wind and broke in a few pieces - who knew it could be too windy for a kite?

This morning we ventured off to the zoo, stayed for a few hours, rode the zoomobile, watched the gorilla's play, there was a 2 year old gorilla that was really showing off and the kids loved it. The dinosaur exhibit opens in a few weeks at the zoo and Jack is really excited about it, Dana signed the kids up for a preview a week before it opens so they have been counting the days...well Jack has. These mechanical dinosaurs are huge, not really a zoo attraction, but it will keep the kids happy.

I managed to get the pool done - just have to heat it up - Hannah was at a friends house for a swim this afternoon - lucky kid. The kids sure miss Dana, Henry was crying tonight in bed that he wants "Mommy home now, not soon, now." Tomorrow I took the day off work, so I get to take the kids to school, which I miss out on - then maybe Henry and I will go for a coffee and a timbit...

Which SuperHero are you?

I stole this quiz off Jen's blog - thanks Jen - try it out and see which superhero you are. I am Flash, Dana is Superman, Jack is Robin and Hannah is SuperGirl - we haven't tried out Henry yet - the kids wanted me to wake him up last night and ask him the questions to see which superhero he was.
